Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 2026
1. What this covers
This policy explains what personal data Geeg collects, why, and how you can control it. It applies to everyone who uses the Geeg platform.
2. Information we collect
- Account information: full name, email address, password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text), role (student or employer), and — for employers — company name.
- Profile information: skills, experience level, university, portfolio links, and anything else you choose to add to your profile.
- Activity data: courses started or completed, quiz results, project submissions, messages you send through Geeg, contracts and wallet transactions.
- Payment records: the amount, status, and reference of top-ups and payouts. Your card and bank details are handled directly by our payment partner, Squad — Geeg never receives or stores them.
- Technical data: basic device/browser information and cookies used to keep you signed in and remember preferences like light/dark mode.
3. How we use it
- To run the platform: create your account, show your courses and progress, match you with gigs, process payments, and let you message other users.
- To generate AI content: course material, project briefs, and reviews are produced by sending relevant text (like a course topic or your submitted work) to Anthropic's Claude API. Video recommendations are looked up through the YouTube Data API.
- To keep the platform safe: detecting fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service.
- To contact you: service notices, and — once you opt in — product updates.
We do not sell your personal data.
4. Who we share it with
- Squad, to process wallet top-ups and payouts.
- Anthropic, to generate AI course content, project briefs, mentor replies, and submission reviews.
- Google (YouTube Data API), to find tutorial videos for Geeg Learn lessons.
- Other users, but only what your role requires: your name and profile are visible to people you message or apply to work with; employers see a student's public profile and submitted work, and students see an employer's company name.
- Law enforcement or regulators, only if we're legally required to.
5. How long we keep it
We keep account and activity data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period after you close it in case you reopen it or we need it to resolve a dispute or meet a legal obligation. You can ask us to delete your data sooner, subject to record-keeping we're required to maintain for payments.
6. Your rights
You can:
- Access, correct, or export the personal data tied to your account, from your Settings page or by contacting us.
- Ask us to delete your account and associated personal data.
- Withdraw consent for optional communications at any time.
7. Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including hashed passwords and encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute protection, but we work to keep your information safe and to respond quickly if something goes wrong.
8. Children's privacy
Geeg isn't directed at children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect personal data from anyone under that age.
9. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change to this policy, we'll show a notice in the app before it takes effect.
